To: Parents or Guardians of students who attend Children’s Choice at Bandelier
We are sorry to inform you that Children’s Choice at Bandelier is working with the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) in investigating a confirmed case of COVID-19 at Bandelier Elementary School. We want to notify parents and guardians of enrolled children to make you aware of the potential exposure.
This letter is to inform you about the next steps necessary to protect you and your child and our community from COVID-19. Per guidance from the New Mexico Department of Health, we are required to have all our staff tested and to have all children tested if they had “close contact” with the staff member or child who tested positive for COVID-19. According to the NM Department of Health, a “close contact” is defined as being closer than six feet for more than three minutes to a person who is positive for COVID-19. If your child had contact with the person who tested positive, they must self-quarantine at home for 14 days.
NO CHILDREN HAVE HAD “CLOSE CONTACT” WITH THE PERSON WHO TESTED POSITIVE.
If at any time, if you or your child begin to develop symptoms of COVID-19, which are cough or shortness of breath, or any two of the following: fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell, please call your healthcare provider or the COVID-19 Hotline at 1-855-600-3453.
It is important that you call ahead to your healthcare provider before presenting to the physician’s office, clinic, urgent care or emergency room so that they can be prepared for your arrival. They may also refer you to a testing clinic.
Based on the guidance provided to us by the NMDOH, State Licensing, and APS, Bandelier will need to be closed for the rest of the week. APS will clean and disinfect all spaces used by Children’s Choice and then it must sit for 48 hours. Any staff members who had “Close Contact” with the confirmed positive case will be tested before returning to work.
Children and educators who did not have contact with the positive case may return to Children’s Choice at Bandelier upon reopening. Bandelier children may not attend any other child care facility during this time.
We know this may be a significant inconvenience for our working families, and apologize for that. We are doing everything we can to protect the health, safety, and well being of the caregivers, directors, children, and families that we are lucky enough to serve. We will keep you updated if more information becomes available to us.
Thank you for your support in these efforts.
